Answer
An incomprehensible spread
Makes an omen of eyes
Outright refusal in a second — a future’s end
I don’t wanna know
I turn the hand of the clock back
And let’s play our instruments from lost time
I don’t have the answer
In spiral-shapes they scatter — brilliant tears, the sound of rain
It starts up, noise resounding unstopped
Covered in shackles, but even so, here I wait
Words you swallow are hidden fangs
Remove your collar, raise your voice
I don’t wanna know
The earphones, I smashed and put away —
Strum legally
The things that I said, saw, and conveyed many times over are
Still on a CD
Install it in your heart
Let’s garnish this reality with flowers — with flowers
I don’t wanna know
I turn the hand of the clock back
And let’s play our instruments from lost time
I don’t have the answer
In spiral-shapes they scatter — brilliant tears, the sound of rain
It starts up, noise resounding unstopped
Covered in shackles, and it’s okay
The things I said, saw, and conveyed are
Still on a CD
Install it in your heart
I would garnish this reality with you
Connection, a dream

Behind the Scenes
Shortly after the album GRACE was released, Saga held a nearly 3-hour live event on Youtube to talk at length about each song on the album, and while the archive of this incredible talk was only up for a brief period of time after the event ended, I jotted down a few notes during the course of it, and here are three remarks about Answer:
★ Saga described the introduction as being reminiscent of 月光浴 (gekkou yoku).
★ He emphasized that this song was one he wanted to put a lot of effort into during lives to raise the energy of the room.
★ Saga loved SHOU’s vocal signature habits and style in this one.
Later, in ALICE NINE. Official note 176, Saga went into detail again about how the song was made and what influenced it, all of which is above the subscription cutoff point, a full translation for which is below:
Interviewer: We have at last entered the final chapter of the thorough “GRACE” album commentary. This time, we’re starting from the 7th song, “Answer”.
Saga: This is TORA’s composition. At the album creation stage, in terms of a song that included an up-tempo, pop element, at the time, the only one we sort of had was “Funeral”. So when I spoke with TORA-san saying “I want another song with more of a pop element,” another song with that sort of vector, “Answer” was the music he came up with. The unusual way that he changed key when going from the A melody to the B melody, did he have my songs in mind? It was a demo that conveyed the fact that Tora-san, in his own way, grasped the atmosphere of this album. I sort of just expanded on that.
Interviewer: Actually, when you tried unveiling it during last year’s tour, how was the response?
Saga: It’s tough to say, you know. The performance is hectic and if you lose concentration, a phrase will immediately leap outta your mind. So we want to hype up the song, but it’s like, the members have to concentrate without getting excited (laughs), it was that sort of song. But in terms of making the album, I wanted songs where the feeling of tension would continue when we performed them, so that’s turning out exactly the way I’d wished.
