Title: Exodus:
Album: GRACE (track 004)
Composer: 沙我 (Saga)
Lyrics:  (SHOU)

歌詞 》

Exodus:

歌詞は「こちら」です。

You can view a copy of the lyrics in their original Japanese online [ here ].

In the studio version around the 1:55 minute mark within the static, SHOU says a line that was not written in the lyric booklet. To my ears it sounds something like 光が舞い落ちている (hikari ga maiochiteiru / light is fluttering down), but please take my impression with a grain of salt and please feel free to correct me in the comments below.

Romaji 》

Exodus:

English Translation 》

Exodus:

Below a frigid moon, we tell the tale of an amber dream
A sheep’s black flock
Dissipated on a related night

The lovers of Eden exchange vows unchanged
Seeing an ideal morning
At the end of the path they chose

She said,he said
But God said

A dream played by a rainbow
Is pursued with uncertainty
But because they’re going to fall into a new light
Hope burns and shines

(Light is fluttering down) ¹

She said,he said
But God said
“I feel so dead”

A transparent flame illuminates even the past
So please don’t be frightened of making mistakes

It rings through you—
The dream played by a rainbow,
Pursued with uncertainty
But because you’re going to fall into a new light
Hope burns and shines

The sheep’s black flock
Dissolved on a related night

oo1. This line appears to be what SHOU says within the static, but it is not written in the booklet, so please take my impression with a grain of salt.

Behind the Scenes

Like 界 (kai) before it, Exodus: was debuted during a live in early 2022 and they played it with a slightly different arrangement at that time. You can hear a performance of that earlier arrangement on the extra Blu-ray disc of the FC Limited Edition of the GRACE album.

Shortly after the album GRACE was released, Saga held a nearly 3-hour live event on Youtube to talk at length about each song on the album, during which he gave attendees a listen to the underpinnings of Exodus: and explained some of his thoughts about it. I did not jot down any specific facts about this song during the event, so if anyone has some facts noted down that they’d be willing to share, please leave a comment below.

Later, in ALICE NINE. Official note 169, Saga explained his thoughts on Exodus:, but all of it is below the subscriber line. If you are a subscriber, press CTRL/Command+F, search “Exodus:” and start reading from the first result.

When they began performing the GRACE album during the tour right after its release, with the intention of making the live more fun, Saga suggested a slight change to how attendees danced to the song via Twitter:

Saga: For Exodus, jumping in time with TORA-san’s voice
is what we agreed on during the after-talk
