Show: This is the same camera man we had when we first appeared in B-PASS, isn’t it?

Okiura: That’s right. He uses film. Lots of pictures are taken with digital cameras I think, so having this sort of picture is also good I think.

Tora: (Looking at the page’s subheading) uh, this is completely off-topic but… it’s something I’ve had on my mind a long time: is this “dashi” a dialectical thing?

Show: The “dashi” in “it’s something my dreams need to reflect-dashi“?

Tora: Yeah. I’ve never really heard it before.

Show: Whaaat? But everyone around you has been using it. Don’t you usually say it?

Tora: I really don’t. If it’s in the form of “this is something-dashi, something” then I say it, but I don’t just say “something-dashi“.

Hiroto: Oh, you mean the “dashi” at the end of a sentence?

Tora: Yeah.

But middle and high schoolers say it quite a bit I think.

Hiroto: Like, “B-PASS-dashi” (laugh)

Tora: Huh. This is the first time I’m hearing of it. I always thought it was a dialectical thing (laugh).

Show: I’m hungry-shi, it stinks-shi.

Tora: MASASHI, HIROSHI, TAKASHI (laugh)

NOTES:
oo1. ‘dashi’ (or just “shi” depending on the sentence), as they get around to explaining, is a sentence ending that gained in use among the younger generation. The ‘dashi’ (a combination of ‘da’ a copula verb and ‘shi’ a particle that Tora points out is usually used to link ideas together, a bit like English ‘and’) basically just adds some feeling to the statement it is put at the end of. Show’s example of “It stinks” is a good one: the person adding ‘dashi’ to the end is just sort of emphasizing the fact that something stinks. That’s just one of the ways to use it.
oo2. Tora says three names ending in ‘shi’ at the end as a joke, probably referring to Hiroto (Hiroshi—one of their nicknames for him), Saga (whose real name is Takashi) and himself (Masashi is Tora’s real name).
